VISION HERO MOBILE

Day after day, we help Cabarete’s underserved boys build self confidence, learn mutual respect and teamwork, and provide them with the tools and practical skills to pursue a rewarding professional life.

Growing up in a place where international tourism and water sports represent the main source of business, we offer boys the tools they will need to build a better future for themselves: English speaking, computer literacy, sports, aquatics training, critical thinking, entrepreneurship

Thanks to our donors’ generosity and key partnerships, InspireDR’s core curriculum is offered as a free after-school program to all boys enrolled:

Computer Literacy: we teach boys how to use computers, with skills ranging from the basic to coding and programming, but we also give them access to quality equipment such as computers, printers, internet access and reference materials. Thanks to our partnership with Rotary Club we built a large computer lab designed in a way to support sharing ideas between students and instructors.

English learning as a Second Language (ESL): we teach English to Dominican and Haitian Boys in our program in a positive and fun learning environment. We favor practical methods using audiovisual and other means in order to develop each student’s ability to understand and express their ideas in English.

Aquatics Training: in a country where 80% of the population does not know how to swim, yet in a town where most of the tourism is generated by water sports (surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing,…) learning how to swim and to perform lifeguard duties and first aid maneuvers gives our boys an essential asset in their professional life.

Public Speaking & Leadership: teaching boys public speaking and leadership skills helps them build self-esteem and confidence, improves their listening skills and develops their ability to influence decisions and inspire action. Public speaking gives them a confident voice while leadership training teaches them to listen and care for those they lead.

Social Enterprise: in partnership with entrepreneurs and business mentors, InspireDR is developing courses to teach personal finance, entrepreneurship and social enterprise to the older boys in-program. Real-life business projects are also in development in order to not only train the boys, but also to generate revenues for InspireDR in its quest toward sustainability.

Sport & Teamwork: the regular practice of sports in InspireDR’s core curriculum helps boys acquire a number of critical skills like communication, conflict resolution, integrity, leadership, respect, self-discipline, teamwork, and trust. All qualities necessary to establish a foundation for healthy living.

Workshop & Vocational Training: InspireDR teaches boys how to plan, design, manage and fully execute a woodworking, mechanical or artistic project from start to finish, using tools safely and applying industry standard techniques. We see expanding our workshop training to include other vocational trade skills like plumbing, masonry, electrical, welding and more, which are in high demand in the marketplace.
